Watch This: Martin & MacArthur Uber Cool Timepieces from Hawaiian Hardwoods

Martin and MacArthur has long been the Tiffany’s of Hawaii, a purveyor of top-shelf jewelry, furniture, and other household items made from sustainably raised Hawaiian hardwoods, hand-crafted, and just plain gorgeous. So I was super stoked when Michael Tam, a former CMO of Border’s Books, took the company over a decade ago. He’s done amazing things. These watches are one of them. The Sport Light (pictured here, $179) is made from ‘iliahialo’e, a medium-sized hardwood tree known for its ‘la’au ‘ala, or heartwood. These and all other M&M watches have Citizen quartz movements with two year warranties. Surprisingly, these timepieces are extremely light-weight — lighter than most any leather or metal strap watch. Due to their construction, the watches are also hypo-allergenic. Oly natural wood touches the skin. Here’s what they say on the site. “After our wood watches are worn for a bit, the luster and color of the wood actually gets deeper and richer, from the natural oils of the body.” Not: NOT waterproof so please remove before surfing (doh!).
